Sustainable Annex
Featured in UCF Art Knight! Showcase 2024
This project is inspired by the Fletcher-Page House, designed by sustainable architect Glenn Murcutt.
Glenn Murcutt is a world-renowned architect who prioritizes sustainability and environmental consciousness in many of his projects. One of his most influential design philosophy’s, one that I used to influence the design of my movie poster and annex model, is the quote “touch the earth lightly.” This philosophy serves as a helpful reminder that architecture should work with the environment, not against it.
Movie Poster
For my movie poster, I wanted to emphasize the intentional simplicity of the Fletcher-Page House, while simultaneously showing the complexities found within it. Vines suspend the Fletcher-Page House to stick with the theme of “touching the earth lightly,” and roots grow out from the bottom of the home to symbolize the influence nature can have on local architecture. To visualize harmony and unity in my poster, I chose to reflect natural scenery through the windowpanes of the large glass doors, representing how earth’s ecosystems are vital to local communities.

Site Studies
These hand drawings allowed me to gather different information about my site, located in Kangaroo Valley, Australia. Here, I got to visual my research in the form of a material study, topography map, bubble diagram, and site analysis.

Annex Model
This project was an exploration of space, scale, and function. Since it is an annex, I had to design this model in a way that it would blend well with the preexisting structure of the Fletcher-Page house, while at the same time retaining its individual quality. I imagined this space to function as an area for rest, therefore it offers ample room to relax and undwind.
