Design Process

Inspiration

I find it’s helpful, especially for collaborative projects, to establish mood boards prior to brainstorming. This permits all group members to gather their ideas into one place, present to their peers, and allows for better communication before entering the research stage of the design process.

Research

Research is highly critical in the design process. My project partner, Abigail Hanly, and I researched numerous articles to use as references for our color scheme, lighting, and design choices. These articles provided us insight on which colors are best for health, which type of lighting is optimal for human efficiency, and much more.

Ideation

At this point in the design process, my partner and I accumulated all of our inspiration, research, and references to use when brainstorming design ideas for the hotel room. We decided to go with a two-story luxury suite, which I roughly sketched above. My partner and I worked on the 3D modeling of the living room and bedroom together, and I modeled the bathrooms myself.
