Cardiology Pavilion

Site: Loch Haven Park, Orlando, FL

For this group project, we were tasked with using 3D modeling software as well as fabrication machines in order to create a cardiology-based pavilion. This structure measures at roughly 5,000 sq. ft. and includes both educational and community engagement spaces that are centered around heart-health and fitness.

Overview

Our pavilion focuses on connecting lives through cardiology. By designating this pavilion to programmatically function as a group exercise studio, we invite community members to get up and active by participating in instructor-led health and fitness classes. Our aim for this pavilion is to encourage people to not only participate in heart-healthy activities, but to learn about them as well. Our pavilion provides educational spaces that allows individuals to learn about the benefits of eating healthy, the importance of exercise, engage in official CPR training, and more. Our pavilion is meant to connect others: to one another, to themselves, and to their local community.

Model Photos

Through a combination of 3D printing, laser cutting, and other traditional modeling techniques, we created this 1/8” = 1’ - 0” site model in order to explore its relation to the existing landscape of Loch Haven. Since our pavilion is centered around cardiology, we chose to incorporate elements that would further embrace this theme. The skin of the building reflects the rhythm human heartbeat, the large circular windows resemble arteries, the program is divided into 4 chambers, and the building itself is subtly shaped like a human heart. To access the pavilion, guests can utilize the stairs from the primary entrance, the ramp from the secondary entrance, or the walkway from the tertiary entrance. Since the pavilion is intended to be a temporary structure, it is entirely made out of lightweight material, including steel, wood, and glass.
